Stills Sequence Timings

This table summarises the core trigger sequences used by the sensor in both Still and Video modes, along with the timing parameters that control them.

For clarity, HP = Half-Press (wake/focus signal), FP = Full-Press (shoot/record signal), and FF = Flash Fire.

Program / ModeSequence OverviewPrecise Timing Controlled ByRelevant Menu Settings Notes / Typical Use
Still – Default (Single Frame)HP → FPHP length = C Var 1, FP press = C Var 3Num = 1, FPS Standard single photo per detection.
Still – Burst (Num > 1)[HP → FP → Gap] × N

FP duration = FPS setting or C Var 3 (if active)
Gap = FPS setting or C Var 4 (if active)

Num (1–10), FPS (0.25–2 fps) Captures a sequence of N images at set frame rate.
Still – Autofocus (Using C Var 1)HP (long) → FPHP duration = C Var 1Mode = StillC Var 1 – 0.1–5 sAllows camera AF (e.g. animal-eye AF) before trigger; requires video light for night use.
Still – Flash AssistedHP → Flash Wake → FP (+ Flash Fire if enabled)Flash Wake/Fire timing = C Var 7 · Channel = C Var 8Mode = StillC Var 7 – Flash signals (0–2)C Var 8 – Flash channel (1–15)Used when camera cannot wake flashes (e.g. Sony). See C Var 7/8 notes.
Video – DefaultHP → FP (hold for TIME) → ReleaseFP hold = C Var 5 · TIME settingTIME (menu)C Var 5 – FP press durationStandard video recording length per detection.
Video – Extend OnHP → FP (hold) → Extend on motion → ReleaseFP hold = C Var 5 · TIME (menu) · Max len = C Var 6TIME · EXT = OnC Var 5 – FP durationC Var 6 – Max video length limitRecording extends on continued motion; limited by C Var 6 if set.
Video – Mode VariantsHP → FP (start/stop logic depends on MODE)FP timing = C Var 5 · Mode = Full/HP/SonyMODE (menu)C Var 5 – FP press durationSelect Full Press (Canon/Nikon), Half Press (Magic Lantern DSLR), or Sony mode for self-stop.
Wake Cycle OnlyPeriodic HP (pulse only)Interval = Periodic Wake (menu)Periodic Wake · Time Windows (if active)Sends HP signal periodically to keep camera/flash awake. No FP issued.
Wake + Shoot (With Gap Time)HP → FP → Wait (Gap Time) → HP → FP …Gap = Gap Time (menu)Gap TimeSensor waits before re-arming for next sequence.

Notes

  • HP (Half-Press): Used to wake camera, initiate autofocus, or wake flashes.
  • FP (Full-Press): Triggers shutter or video recording.
  • Flash Wake/Fire: Optional secondary wireless signals (C Var 7/8).
  • EXT Mode (Video): Extends active recording when new motion is detected.
  • C Var Overrides: When a C Var duplicates a menu control (e.g. C Var 3/4 vs FPS), the C Var setting takes priority.
